A CELEBRATION OF YOUTH, FAITH AND COMMUNITY
Youth Fest Inauguration and Formation
The Ilamai Province Annual Youth Fest 2026 was held on 25–26 January at Don Bosco College of Arts and Science, Keela Eral, Thoothukudi District. The event brought together 182 participants, including 168 youth and 14 Salesians from 15 communities of the province. The gathering focused on two important themes: ecological concern, marking the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, and political participation, encouraging responsible civic engagement among youth.
The programme began with an inspiring inaugural session led by Fr. Rajadevan, Rector of Keela Eral Community. Through ice-breaker games and team-building activities, participants quickly formed bonds of friendship. A thought-provoking session by Fr. Savarimuthu, Advocate at the Madras High Court, helped the youth understand the difference between people-centred politics and party politics, encouraging them to think critically and become responsible citizens.
Cultural and Spiritual Experience
The Youth Fest was enriched with vibrant cultural and spiritual activities. Participants presented eight cultural performances including mime, songs, dances, and skits, reflecting creativity and teamwork. The performances from Keeranur, Keela Eral, and Therespuram were particularly appreciated.
The spiritual dimension of the gathering was deeply meaningful. A penitential service and confessions were animated by Fr. Diravya Rupen, giving the youth an opportunity for spiritual renewal. The Eucharistic celebration strengthened their faith and unity as a Salesian youth family. The day concluded with an energetic campfire evening filled with music, DJ dancing, and fellowship, creating joyful memories and deepening the spirit of friendship among the participants.
Republic Day Celebration and Youth Experience
The second day began with the Republic Day flag hoisting by Fr. Doss Kennedy, Provincial of Trichy, followed by the solemn Feast Mass of Don Bosco. The participants then visited Thoothukudi, where they prayed at the Basilica of Our Lady of Snows and enjoyed time together at Muthu Nagar Beach.
The Youth Fest concluded with an evaluation session held at Auxilium Convent, Therespuram. Participants expressed great appreciation for the spiritual programmes, cultural activities, and the opportunity to build friendships across the province. The event successfully combined faith formation, social awareness, and joyful celebration, reflecting Don Bosco’s vision of forming young people who are spiritually rooted, socially responsible, and committed to building a better society.
