Date: 25 October 2026 | Venue: Don Bosco, Thanjavur

The Formative Congress of the Salesian Co-operators of the Trichy Province was held at Don Bosco, Thanjavur, on 25 October 2026, under the theme “Mission and Life.” The gathering brought together 120 Salesian Co-operators and the Delegates to deepen their understanding of the Salesian vocation and renew their commitment to Don Bosco’s mission.

The congress was graced by Rev. Sr. Majella Fernando, FMA, Provincial of the Our Lady of Snow Province; Rev. Fr. Doss Kennedy, SDB, Provincial of the Our Lady of Velankanni Province; Rev. Sr. Rosy Antony Samy, FMA, Province Delegate for the Salesian Family; and Mr. John Alexander, South Asian Zonal Secretary.

The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer dance presented by the students of Auxilium Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Thanjavur, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Mr. Joseph, Provincial Treasurer, delivered the welcome address. In her inaugural address, Sr. Majella Fernando appreciated the Co-operators’ dedication and emphasised their role as committed and responsible members of the Salesian Family.

The first animation session, led by Mr. John Alexander, focused on the identity, mission, and responsibilities of the Association of Salesian Co-operators. He encouraged participants to embody Don Bosco’s charism in their daily lives and contribute actively to the education and formation of young people.

In the second session, Sr. Kulandai Theresa, FMA, Province Delegate for the ASC, reflected on the evolving role of laypeople, particularly women, in the Church and society. Drawing inspiration from the Bible, she invited participants to deepen their faith, recognise their vocation, and participate actively in the Church’s mission through service and daily witness.

In the afternoon, zonal discussions involving Coimbatore, Tuticorin, Madurai, and Trichy provided opportunities to share experiences, identify challenges faced by local units, and explore practical solutions. Mr. Manohar, Provincial Councillor, subsequently presented the Amalan Academy budget. Matters concerning annual subscriptions and registration fees were also discussed.

The congress culminated in the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Doss Kennedy, SDB. In his homily, he encouraged the Co-operators to embody the four dimensions of Don Bosco’s educational approach—Home, Church, School, and Playground—by creating welcoming environments where young people feel loved, accepted, guided, and supported.

A special highlight was the recognition of two members from the Trichy Province among 24 lay leaders honoured at the South Asia level. Mr. Manohar received the “Trustworthy Person” award for his dedicated service among poor boys, while Mr. Xavier Amaladoss, Coordinator of Don Bosco Anbu Illam, received the “Good Salesian” award for his contribution to the Salesian mission. He also urged Co-operators to foster vocations and accompany young people in discerning God’s call.

The congress concluded with a renewed commitment to the Salesian vocation. It strengthened fraternal communion and encouraged participants to live Don Bosco’s charism with greater responsibility, autonomy, and dedication, especially in accompanying young people and bringing hope to families and society.
