Brief History of Don Bosco, Manikandam
Established in 1995, Don Bosco Alaihal Media started as an alternative school before evolving into a leading media centre. Over the years, it has expanded its focus to include social communication, media production, and animation, supporting various educational and social initiatives. The centre plays a vital role in promoting media education and awareness, ensuring that young people, especially those from rural backgrounds, gain opportunities in the creative industry.

DBAM engages in a wide range of media-related activities, including education, professional training, and community outreach. DBAM’s Five Operational Wings
DBAM operates through five specialized wings that cater to different aspects of media education and production.
The DB Media Academy (DBMAC) is a premier training institute offering diploma and certificate courses in media-related fields such as photography, graphic design, video editing, and web development.
Alaihal Media serves as the production wing, responsible for high-quality multimedia content, including videography, photography, and digital media projects that support evangelization and social awareness.

The DB Animation Centre (DBACT) acts as a training and animation hub, providing leadership programs, faith formation, and pastoral animation for Salesians, religious educators, and lay leaders.
Alaihal Media Clubs create a network of student-led media groups in Don Bosco institutions that promote media literacy, critical analysis, and creative participation in media-related activities.
Alaihal Publications functions as a publishing division, producing books, magazines, and digital resources focused on faith formation, education, and social advocacy.
Training Programs (2024-25)

DBAM conducted several professional training programs in 2024-25, covering fields such as web development, graphic design, sound editing, photography, and video production. Smart Liturgy Initiative
The Smart Liturgy Initiative is a unique digital evangelization project that provides weekly liturgical resources, including sermons, responsorial psalms, and faith-based reflections. These materials are shared through social media, emails, and WhatsApp, reaching thousands of people. Climate Change Mitigation Project

Don Bosco Alaihal Media (DBAM) has outlined a structured annual plan for various media-related activities, awareness programs, and training sessions. These initiatives aim to enhance media literacy, leadership development, and cultural engagement at the province, zonal, and regional levels.
Planned Events and Programs
On June 21, the Uravu Correspondents Meet will be held in Manikandam at the provincial level, bringing together 30 participants for discussions on media initiatives and communication strategies.
In August, a series of Media Awareness & Media Club Training programs will be conducted across different zones. Therespuram, Tuticorin Zone, will host the session on August 24, followed by Madurai K. Pudur, Madurai Zone, on August 31. Another session will be held at Madhakottai, Trichy Zone, on September 1, and Salem Anbu Illam, Salem Zone, on September 14. Each of these sessions will engage 25 participants in interactive workshops focused on developing media skills and critical analysis.
In October, DBAM will participate in regional and global events. The Boscom Meet will be held in Sonada, bringing together 15 participants for collaborative discussions on media strategies within the Salesian network. Additionally, DBAM will actively engage in the World Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF), organized across various locations, expecting around 200 participants.
In November, DBAM will take part in Illuminaire, a regional-level Catholic media conference in Bengaluru, attracting around 250 attendees from different media and religious backgrounds.
The Cultural Fest, a province-level celebration promoting artistic and cultural talent, is scheduled for December 7 in Coimbatore, with an expected participation of 300 individuals.
In February 2025, DBAM will host two major events. On February 21, the Evaluation Meeting of Media Club Coordinators will be conducted at Madurai ITI, where 65 coordinators will assess the impact and effectiveness of media clubs. Additionally, a regional-level online media conference, Luminata, will be held, engaging 120 participants in discussions on emerging media trends and innovations.
