Salesian Migrant Ministry – Caring for the Displaced

The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) actively serve migrants, refugees, and displaced persons, following Don Bosco’s mission to care for the most vulnerable. Their ministry provides spiritual, educational, and social support to help migrants integrate into society with dignity.

Key Areas of Salesian Migrant Ministry:

  • Shelter & Basic Needs – Providing food, housing, and emergency aid for displaced families.
  • Education & Skill Training – Schools, vocational programs, and language courses for better opportunities.
  • Legal & Social Assistance – Helping migrants with documentation, rights protection, and advocacy.
  • Pastoral & Community Support – Strengthening faith and cultural identity through parish services.
  • Youth & Family Integration – Offering counseling, child protection, and community engagement programs.

The Salesians empower migrants by offering them hope, stability, and the chance for a better future through compassionate service and holistic development.

Introduction

This annual plan outlines the key programs aimed at raising awareness and providing support for distressed migrants. Organized at the province level, these initiatives focus on engaging the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDBs), the Salesian Family, and migrant youth in our care. Through these events, we seek to build a more compassionate and responsive community that addresses the pressing needs of migrants in our society.

Program 1: Awareness on the Plight of Distressed Migrants

Date: August 23
Venue: Provincial House
Level: Province

An awareness program will be organized at the Provincial House to highlight the difficult conditions faced by distressed migrants. The program aims to sensitize the Salesians of Don Bosco and members of the Salesian Family about the challenges migrants encounter, encouraging them to take active steps in supporting these vulnerable populations.

Program 2: Awareness on the Plight of Distressed Migrants

Date: October 18
Venue: DB NEST, Tiruppur
Level: Province

A second awareness program will take place at DB NEST, Tiruppur, continuing the mission of educating and empowering our communities to support distressed migrants. Like the first, this session is tailored for SDBs and the Salesian Family, aiming to foster deeper understanding and engagement with migrant issues at the provincial level.

Program 3: Migrant Youth Mela

Date: May 16
Venue: DB NEST
Level: Province

The Migrant Youth Mela is a vibrant event designed for migrant youth from our various presences. Held at DB NEST, the mela provides a platform for celebration, support, and awareness-building among migrant youth.
