PARISHES

FORMATION TO FAITH

Evangelization and Catechesis

From the year 2001, the Parishes paid serious attention to regular celebration of Sacraments, catechism classes for the children and the youth, starting of BCCs, the setting up of the Parish Council along with a Finance Committee and Various Pastoral Commissions, starting Bible study and prayer groups and finally inter-faith activities. Of course, special attention was paid to the formation of youth groups and activities specific to them.

The past three years have been a period of consolidation of these efforts in most of our parishes. Special efforts have been taken to improve the BCCs in places where the beginning of BCCs has been slow for various reasons. Repeated motivational programs have been organized.

In the recent past we have tried to focus on Human rights issues. This was necessitated by the unprecedented attacks on the Christian minority communities in various parts of the country. The institution of the Christavar Vazhvurimai Iyyakkam, a socio political people’s movement has been the main offshoot of these times. We had to organize rallies, protests and fasts. In the recent times the focus has also included the celebration of the year of St. Paul which concluded last June. The present year has been declared as the year of Priests. The Tiruchy Salesian Province will also take this as the focus for the current academic year particularly in its parishes and mission stations.

The coming three years will further focus on empowering and capacity building for the various parish groups specially the BCCs and the parish council. Bible study groups and prayer groups will be further strengthened. Sustained efforts will go into organizing the youth in our parishes and federating them into a catholic youth movement. A human –rights perspective will pervade the various programs of spiritual animation. There will also be a continued drive for vocation promotion in our parishes identifying suitable candidates for the congregation. The communication centre will take up initiatives to produce visual programs appropriate in these areas.
