Thanjavur, India – 29 April 2025
With immense joy and gratitude to God, the Salesian Province of Tiruchy (INT) celebrated the priestly ordination of seven deacons on 29 April 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Don Bosco, Thanjavur. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Sahayaraj Thamburaj, DD, Bishop of Thanjavur, who conferred the Sacrament of Holy Orders.
Warm Welcome and Exhortation by the Provincial
In his welcome address, Fr. Agilan SDB, the Provincial of Tiruchy, extended heartfelt greetings to the bishop, the concelebrants, Salesian confreres, religious, families of the ordinandi, and all the faithful gathered. He encouraged the newly ordained to imitate the human qualities of Pope Francis — particularly his compassion for the poor, courage in convictions, and simplicity of life — calling them to be humble and joyful ministers of Christ.
A Homily Rooted in Compassion and Mission
During his homily, Bishop Sahayaraj Thamburaj shared his deep personal bond with the Salesians, recalling his own formation in the Salesian seminary at Poonamallee. Reflecting on the Gospel of Mark 3:13–15, he emphasized Christ’s compassionate call to mission. He reminded the ordinandi that they are chosen first to be with Christ, and then to go forth and preach the Good News, healing the wounded and broken-hearted.
An Invitation to Live the Gospel Radically
Towards the conclusion of his homily, the bishop offered a moving reflection on Pope Francis, urging the new priests to embrace an authentic, compassionate, and missionary priesthood. He called on them to follow the Holy Father’s example in living out the Gospel with sincerity and service.
A Joyful Celebration of Faith and Mission
The celebration was marked by a deep sense of joy, faith, and missionary zeal. The Province of Tiruchy rejoices in this blessing and entrusts the seven newly ordained priests to the maternal care of Mary Help of Christians and the guidance of Don Bosco. With renewed hope, the province looks forward to their dedicated service to the young and the poor, rooted in love and pastoral charity.
