NGO Experience at SOC SEAD – A Pastoral Enrichment

Overview

From March 21 to April 21, Bro. Amuthan spent a month at SOC SEAD NGO, located in Holy Cross College, Trichy, as part of his thesis on family and marital life. Staying at AMSAM Community, he gained hands-on experience in various services offered by the NGO.

Key Services Observed

  • De-Addiction Program: Provided rehabilitation for 15 clients, including therapy sessions and weekly family counseling.
  • Family Counseling: Focused on resolving marital issues, with cases referred by Mambalasolai women police.
  • Child Adoption: Cared for 18 abandoned children, ensuring safety and nourishment.

Personal Reflection

The experience gave deep insights into real-life challenges in family systems. It broadened his pastoral understanding and appreciation of the role NGOs play in society.

Summer VBS Camp – “Jolly to Be Holy” at Madurai

Camp Details

Bro. Amuthan also served at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, Madurai, organizing the Vacation Bible School (VBS) camp titled “Jolly to Be Holy” from April 30 to May 9.

Objectives

To help children grow in joyful holiness by knowing, loving, and proclaiming Jesus Christ.

Structure of the Camp

  • Session 1 – Faith Formation: Topics included History and Liturgy of Christianity.
  • Session 2 – Talent Display: Competitions based on Bible stories and parables.
  • Session 3 – Fun Activities: Party games and teamwork-building events.

Highlights

  • Daily Bible-based games and prayers.
  • Volunteers from the parish youth guided the children.
  • The Salesian community supported with resources like hats and refreshments.
  • The camp concluded with adoration and prize distribution.
