APRIL 28 to MAY 20, 2026
Don Bosco Varadarajanpet Community successfully conducted English in Action 2026, a dynamic English Language Camp held from April 28 to May 20, 2026. The programme provided students with an engaging platform to strengthen their English language skills while developing confidence, creativity, teamwork, and leadership. Throughout the camp, the campus was alive with enthusiasm as participants eagerly immersed themselves in a variety of educational and recreational activities.
The camp was meticulously organized and coordinated by Bro. Reymond, Bro. Edmond, Bro. Nirmal and Bro. Sinto, whose dedication, careful planning and constant encouragement ensured the smooth execution of every aspect of the programme. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Thomas Louise, Rector and correspondent and all the salesians, who formally launched the camp and inspired the students with motivating messages on the importance of communication skills and personal growth.
A total of 40 students enrolled in the camp. To encourage healthy competition and foster team spirit, participants were divided into four groups: Shakespeare, wordsworth, John Milton and John Dryden Teams. Each team selected its own captain who played a vital role in guiding and motivating team members during the various activities and competitions. Every day commenced with a vibrant morning assembly at 9:30 a.m., conducted by the teams on a rotational basis. One of the highlights of the assembly was the daily flag-hoisting ceremony, during which the previous day’s winning team proudly hoisted its flag. The assemblies were enriched by the presence of the Salesians, who shared inspiring thoughts, life lessons, and spiritual reflections, encouraging students to strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., students attended interactive English sessions that focused on vocabulary enrichment, grammar practice, pronunciation improvement, reading comprehension, and spoken communication. The classes were highly participative and learner-cantered, enabling students to practice English confidently in a supportive environment. Following the academic sessions, students participated in a music and singing session from 12:20 p.m. to 12:55 p.m., where they learned English songs that enhanced their pronunciation, fluency, and listening skills.
After lunch, students devoted time to guided reading activities, which helped improve comprehension and language fluency. The afternoons were further energized with team games, language-based challenges, group activities, and interactive exercises, providing opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and enjoyment until the conclusion of the day’s programme at 3:30 p.m.
A variety of competitions added excitement to the camp, including singing contests, drawing competitions, public speaking activities, colourful fashion show, dance competition, English movies, cooking and English nite. These events enabled students to showcase their talents, express themselves creatively, and build self-confidence while interacting with their peers. To assess the learning outcomes of the programme, every Monday of the week, students have class test and a final evaluation examination was conducted on the concluding day. The students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and commitment, reflecting the knowledge and skills they had acquired during the camp.
The closing ceremony, held on 20 May 2026, was a joyful celebration of achievement and growth. Rev. Fr. Thomas Louis, SDB, Rector of the Community was presided over the valedictory function. Certificates were distributed to all participants in recognition of their dedication and successful completion of the programme. Special prizes were awarded to students who achieved outstanding results in the final assessment and to those who excelled in the various competitions conducted throughout the camp. The coveted Overall Championship Trophy was claimed by the John Milton Team, while Wordsworth Team secured the runner-up position. The celebrations reflected the students’ sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the memorable experiences they shared during the camp.
English in Action 2026 proved to be a remarkable and fruitful initiative. Beyond improving English proficiency, the programme nurtured confidence, discipline, creativity, leadership, and teamwork. It successfully created an atmosphere where students could learn, grow, and express themselves freely, truly empowering young learners to become confident communicators and responsible leaders of tomorrow.
