Don Bosco Anbu Illam is a Non-Governmental Organization which had its humble beginning in the year 1988, the Centenary year of the death of its inspirer, St. John Bosco, in order to cater to the needs of the most deserving and marginalized children in and around Salem, especially of the street and working children, orphans, semi-orphans, prisoners` children, rag pickers, HIV/AIDS infected and affected children, child labourers , school dropouts, and other such marginalized groups.

It was a brave venture by the Salesians, especially Late Rev Fr. Schlooz and Rev. Bro. Meril Rodriguez SDB. During these 25 years Don Bosco Anbu Illam has reached the nook and corners of the Salem District in order to uplift the vulnerable section of the society.

Don Bosco Anbu Illam, Salem with its caring and protecting hands, was able to inspire, protect and rehabilitate thousands of youngsters, women and children in the locality. But the staff and inmates keep are aware that there is much to be done that is awaiting them after these silver years and they step into the golden phase.
